When the last of that species of a vine dies, a genetic heritage is lost forever. These thoughts disturb us, and they are the spring that pushes us to search for and save old varieties or biotypes. We can then also experiment with their wine making properties. It is a fixed point that gives us so much energy and that always asks us to act today, immediately, and not to waste time because tomorrow may be too late. It is with this philosophy that Fattoria Villa Ligi has been producing and vinifying local grapes for over thirty years. Heir to a more than 100-year-old family tradition, the owner Francesco Tonelli, now flanked by his son Stefano, has protected and kept alive historic vines such as the "Vernaccia di Pergola", today recognised as the Aleatico clone, with which the Pergola DOC is produced in various types of vinification. The protection and enhancement of local vines is also important for the production of the other two appellations of the province of Pesaro and Urbino, namely Bianchello del Metauro DOC and Colli Pesaresi DOC, which are produced with historic vines such as Biancame, Sangiovese and Montepulciano.
Le Marche, the only Italian region with a name in the plural, because there is plurality in its people, in its sentiments, in its hospitality, and, above all, in its wines. The determination, the tenacious work, the continuous search for quality, typicality and uniqueness of everything that is produced is the prize that is offered to all those who travel around it to know it better. Nature is benevolent in the region and the climate is healthy, free from environmental pollution, fresh and generous. Those who decide to stay here know that they will have a long life in a healthy environment.
Le Marche is therefore a region where the environment and humans live together, linked to each other in an indissoluble way as they have been for thousands of years; a region where ancient traditions have found their place of nurture, their vital energy, in an extraordinary environment that humans have helped to shape with their work over the centuries.
